Insights from the Global Chief Executive Officer Study
This study is based on face-to-face conversations with more than 1,700 chief executive officers in 64 countries.
This year, they identified the overflow of data and information as one ofthe most important issues influencing their strategic business decisions.
In conducting this study, it's not hard to understand why.
CEOs are looking beyond the benefits of connected supply chains and moreintegrated back-office systems. Their focus is shifting to the power andpotential of recent advances in social media and analytics to reimagineconnections among people - whether that's customers, employees, partners, investors or the world at large.
That aspiration comes with major implications for strategy, structure andculture. Many of the highest-performing enterprises are already developingfar more open cultures and embracing the most disruptive forms ofnew innovation.
The 2012 IBM CEO Study, Leading Through Connections, identified the following key trends:
- Chapter One Empowering employees through values
- Chapter Two Engaging customers as individuals
- Chapter Three Amplifying innovation with partnerships
- The CEO Agenda Leading in the connected era
CEOs realize they need a new strategy in the unending war for talent, and so they arecreating more open and collaborative cultures - encouraging employeesto connect, learn from each other and thrive in a world of rapid change.
Collaboration is the number-one trait CEOs are seeking in their employees, with 75 percent of CEOs calling it critical.
"Building talent and culture will have the most significant, longest-lasting impact on anorganization - more so than any other activity a CEO can do."
