The Games of Business – Collected Essays

The author introduces us to the wily rascals; those smooth, slick operators who seem to always find their way to the top. The people who pass people who are  far more talented, virtuous, and intelligent along the way.

These are what the author calls – the ‘players’. People for whom life is a game, and others are merely the tools they use to assist them in making their play.

Hardy suggests that ‘players’ have always existed, but never in such numbers. He suggests that we now live in a Player Culture – made by Players, for the benefit of Players.

And he suggests that for the rest of us, it is imperative that we learn how to play their game…..

In this collection of essays Hardy covers:

  • The players. How to recognize them; what they do, what they say and what they don’t do. He uses O.J. Simpson and Dick Cheney as two modern day ‘players’
  • The effects. On business, on results, on the people around them and even on society
  • Why the more we are fooled the more gullible we become
  • Players and the cult of marketing
  • How players and the games affect ‘change’ in our organisations
  • How to tear down the bastions – how to free yourself from ‘the game’
  • How and why we need to turn the tables on ‘players’

This e.book makes very powerful reading. In some ways it is terrifying, in others it is refreshing because once you have read the book you will be able to recognize the games and the players. You will be able to make some better choices about being sucked in to the game or deciding to walk away.

Powerful reading. A book for our times in these post financial crash times to make sure such upheaval never happens again.

About the Author:

This is a collection of essays dealing with the challenges of what the author John Berling Hardy describes as ‘The Hidden Game.’

As an auditor to Fortune 500 organisations, and after a spell working in Hungary, he noticed the severely dysfunctional behaviours of senior people in organizations.

He is now dedicated to ‘naming the game’ and showing organizations how to get out of the destructive behaviours we have witnessed in Enron and the more recent banking melt-down.
