Employed But Not Engaged

By Michael Smyth

$25.00 USD

How to break up with your employees and hold on to the ring.

Employed But Not Engaged alerts us to the fact that 1:10 employees is disengaged from their work and a disengaged workforce produces 68% less than an engaged workforce. Scary stats.

The question is - what does an employer or manager do about the problem? After all, according to Michael Smyth, no manager or employer sets out to employ someone who only ever does the bare minimum, or who surfs the internet for a good part of their day or takes lots of sick days.

The author brings humour to the hard employment challenges by comparing the employment relationship to the marriage and divorce process:

  • The dating game (recruitment)
  • The pre-nuptial (the job description and employment agreement)
  • Breaking the vows (the warning process)
  • High maintenance (redundancy v termination)
  • I'm outa here (resignation)
  • Heading for the divorce court (mediation)

If you have ever had a difficult staff member (and who hasn't) then this book will be a breath of fresh air. Yes it is a NZ book, but it IS written by a barrister. So although some of the legal aspects of the book may not pertain outside of NZ, the sentiments and the steps in the book are global.

Read the book so you never need fear dealing with poor performers ever again because disengaged employees are costing you a fortune .
