Is it time for heated runways? Wouldn't think that too difficult

Watching the torture for travellers over the past week it makes me wonder how it got so bad. Yes the snow was early; yes it was heavy - but Britain has snow every winter - how come the airports were so vulnerable?

Why don't we have heated runways? The water could be heated with solar energy - the water run off as the snow melts could be channelled to tanks ready for the summer droughts!

Would that be so difficult or costly - my pick is it would be a fraction of the cost of all those disrupted flights - and the pipes would only need to be laid once! ann
