How much time do you spend working ON your business? (Honestly)
Apparently a survey was done a few years ago by Harvfard University - they asked the CEO's of the Fortune 500 companies how much time they spent working on the future of the business. The result came back as a pathetic 5% average.
I've just read about an interview with A.G.Lafley - CEO of Proctor & Gamble and his philosophies are:
* that the CEO is the link between the 'inside' of a business and the 'outside' (the market)
In his own words 'The CEO can see opportunities others don't see and, as the one person whose boss isn't another company employee, make the judgements and the tough calls others are unable to make.'
He further believes that the CEO should:
* Set strategy. What the company will do, what it won't
* Balance the short term expenditure with long term goals and ensure the right trade-off
* Set and reinforce company values.
Yeah! Lets hope lots of other CEO's read his comments - ann
