39 pubs are closing every week in Britain.
Goodness - that is a huge amount of pubs vanishing. Not that I'm a drinker, but when I lived in the UK I loved to pop in with my friends for a bar meal or a game of darts. It was where everyone of all ages congregated - and in the little town I came from the pubs were the hub of the community. Course that was in the days when we didn't set out just to get rat faced (sorry sounding like a grumpy old gran).
Some of them are beautiful buildings too - what a tragedy.
Cause - the big guys (isn't it always the big guys) forcing pubs to buy only their brand of beer at greatly inflated prices.
However a few pub co-ops have started - local people clubbing together to literally save their 'local'.
